Galliard scores hat-trick with Wimbledon stadium
Developer Galliard is on track to start work on its third football stadium project, with Merton Council expecting to co-sign a legally binding Section 106 agreement in the coming days.
The flagship AFC Wimbledon stadium is planned for Plough Lane, on the 90,000sq m site of the former greyhound stadium. It will feature an 11,000-seater (to gradually phased up to 20,000) stadium, retail space, a squash and fitness club, car and cycle parking as well as over 600 new homes.
Builder Andrew Scott Ltd was appointed as the preferred contractor at the end of July; they previously built Parc y Scarlets, in Llanelli, Carmarthenshire, large developments at Hampshire County Cricket Club’s The Rose Bowl, and Stoke City's bet365 Stadium (formerly Britannia Stadium).
In June, the Department of Culture, Media and Sport withdrew plans to add the venue to the List of Buildings of Special Architectural or Historic Interest.
