Leisure centre to open next month

Morden Leisure Centre will open on 6 November, with people taking part in a silent auction to be the first to use the swimming pool.

The new leisure centre features a 25m x 13m main pool and smaller secondary pool, where a moveable floor allows activities ranging from shallow toddler sessions to diving. A studio, fitness suite and cafe with outside seating will also be available to local residents.

For disabled users the centre has a Changing Places facility with accessible toilets, shower, changing bed and hoist.

Merton Council's cabinet member for community and culture, Nick Draper said: "This is a fantastic opportunity for someone to mark their place in the new leisure centre's history, whilst raising money for the mayor’s [of Merton] charities. This centre is a wonderful facility for everyone to have fun and keep fit, and I can’t wait to see it being used by the community that helped shape its design."

With bidding closing on 30 October, the winning bidder will have exclusive access in Morden Leisure Centre at 3.30pm on the afternoon of 6 November in advance of opening to the public at 4pm.
