New community centre opens

A community centre that provides day services for adults with learning disabilities moved to its new home in Colliers Wood earlier this year.

Leyton Road Community Resource Centre was officially opened at the end of January and includes a music therapy room, art room, relaxation area, garden and kitchen.

The building provides the new home of High Path Centre that moved as part of the planned new Harris Academy development.

The centre is a community hub that provides space for voluntary groups, including the Uptown Youth Group, WIFFA (West Indian Families and Friends Association) and PHAB Club, who were at the opening ceremony.

Special guests included the management team of AFC Wimbledon and the football club’s mascot, Haydon the Womble.

The club has supported the centre in recent years through fundraising and by offering day trips to football matches.
