Puppet show on at Wimbledon theatre
A touching and imaginative fantasy story by the author of The Gruffalo will be playing to children at a Wimbledon theatre this Christmas.
Julia Donaldson’s The Paper Dolls is being brought to life by master puppeteers from the Little Angel Theatre, in collaboration with the Wimbledon-based Polka Theatre.
It will begin on Wednesday (Dec 11) and play throughout the Christmas period until January 5 next year, at the New Wimbledon Studio Theatre.
The show, aimed at youngsters aged three to six, is based on a book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Rebecca Cobb, telling the story of Rosie who takes her paper dolls on a fantastical adventure encountering crocodiles and dinosaurs.
Master puppeteers will bring the characters to life, accompanied by original music in a production adapted and directed by Polka’s artistic director Peter Glanville.
Glanville said: “Julia Donaldson’s The Paper Dolls is a celebration of children’s imagination and their conviction when transforming objects into characters and stories.
“It has been a pleasure to adapt this story into a production for Polka, using beautiful puppets and gentle evocative music. We are delighted to be reviving this show for a Christmas run at New Wimbledon Studio Theatre.”
